Kate Middleton Nurse Commits Suicide: First Pic Of Jacintha Saldanha

Jacintha Saldanha Photo

A photo of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who allegedly committed suicide on Dec. 6 after patching through a prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital room on Dec. 4, has finally been revealed! Plus, Australia's 2Day FM station refuses to fire the DJs who made the prank call, insisting they're 'victims' too!

DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian of Sydney's 2Day FM station, who claimed to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles during a prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital room on December 4, will not be fired, says the chief executive of Southern Cross Austero, which owns the station.

Southern Cross Austereo, the company that owns the station, released a statement on Dec. 7 saying, 'SCA and 2Day FM are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha from King Edward VII's Hospital. SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy.'

One day later, Dec. 8, Rhys Holleran, the chief executive of Southern Cross Austereo, which owns the station, is elaborating on the DJs 'suspension.' Rhys says the presenters were 'completely shattered' and had been offered counseling. He added that they will NOT be fired.

Rhys added at a press conference, 'These people aren't machines, they're human beings. What happened is incredibly tragic and we're deeply saddened and we're incredibly affected by that. I think prank calls as a craft in radio have been going for decades and decades and are not just part of one radio station or network or country. No-one could have reasonably foreseen what ended up being an incredibly tragic day. I don't think anyone could have reasonably foreseen that this was going to be a result.'

Although they did prank call the hospital, Bonnie Fuller believes we shouldn't blame them for the nurse's death, since they couldn't have predicted such a tragedy would occur.

The Prank Call Backstory

The DJs spoke to Kate's private nurse at King Edward VII Hospital and were given actual information on Kate's hyperemesis gravidarum condition.

During the phone call, you can hear DJ Mel posing as Queen Elizabeth II saying, 'Hello, I'm just looking after my granddaughter, Kate. I wanted to see how her little tummy bug is going.'

It's unclear exactly what the nurse told Mel, but she says the nurse, 'was giving us real information,' that left her in shock.

'We were very surprised that our call was put through,' Mel is quoted as saying. 'We thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents.'

Prince William & Kate Middleton Release Statement on Nurse's Suicide

St. James's Palace also released a statement on the nurse's suicide, saying, 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.'

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should the DJs be fired?
