Kate Middleton Hospital Receptionist Suspected Suicide After Radio Prank

Kate Middleton Hospital Receptionist Dead

So sad. Hospital receptionist Jacintha Saldanha, who mistakenly transferred a prank call to Kate Middleton's hospital room on Dec. 4, was found dead on Dec. 6. According to a new report, suicide is suspected to be the cause of death.

DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian from Sydney's 2Day FM station, claiming to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, successfully prank called Kate Middleton's hospital room on December 4 after a unknowing receptionist, identified as Jacintha Saldanha ' a mother of two, patched them through. The DJs were able to speak to Kate's private nurse at King Edward VII Hospital and were given actual information on Kate's condition, according to audio of the call posted online (listen in full below). Unfortunately, the receptionist who patched through the call has allegedly committed suicide as she was found dead on Dec. 6.

The woman was found dead near the hospital at 9:30AM on Thursday Dec. 6, according to TMZ. Paramedics arrived on the scene, but were unable to revive the woman. Scotland Yard is treating the death as a possible suicide.

King Edward VII Hospital Releases Statement

'It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha. Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII's Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues. We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time.'

John Lofthouse, the Chief Executive at the hospital, added, 'Our thoughts and deepest sympathies at this time are with her family and friends. Everyone is shocked by the loss of a much loved and valued colleague.'

Lord Glenarthur, the Chairman of the hospital, said, 'This is a tragic event. Jacintha was a first class nurse who cared diligently for hundreds of patients during her time with us. She will be greatly missed.'

Radio DJ Pretends To Be Queen Elizabeth II, Asks About Kate's 'Tummy Bug'

During the call, you can hear Mel posing as Queen Elizabeth II saying, 'Hello, I'm just looking after my granddaughter, Kate. I wanted to see how her little tummy bug is going.'

It's unclear exactly what the nurse told Mel, but she says the nurse, 'was giving us real information,' that left her in shock.

'We were very surprised that our call was put through,' Mel is quoted as saying. 'We thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents.'

King Edward VII Hospital's Response To Prank Call

On December 5, the hospital released a statement confirming the prank caller had been transferred to Kate's nurse on December 4 and a short conversation with the nurse took place.

A spokesperson added :'This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols.'

Australian Radio Station Apologizes for Prank Call

The same day, the radio station also issued an apology on its Twitter feed, saying: '2Day FM sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the inquiry to Kate's hospital, the radio segment was done with light-hearted intentions, we wish Kate and her family all the best and we're glad to hear she's doing well.'

No official comment on the incident has come from Prince William or Kate yet.

The Duchess of Cambridge is now at home, resting with Prince William, after receiving treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition involving nausea and vomiting, a more severe form of morning sickness that some women suffer from during early pregnancy.
