Giuliana stopped by the 'Today' show to gush about how she and her husband love their miracle baby so much, they even enjoy getting up in the middle of the night to feed him! Read on to find out what she said.
After a year of intense highs and lows, Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill Rancic finally welcomed baby Edward Duke Rancic on Aug. 29 ' and the E! News correspondent said he was the best thing to come out of the darkest time in her life.
After years of failed IVF treatments, Giuliana received more shocking health news last year when she discovered she had the early stages of breast cancer. She underwent a double lumpectomy in October 2011, and then a double mastectomy two months later. Due to Giuliana's cancer treatments, the couple turned to a surrogate to carry their baby to term in December ' little Edward Duke was born nine months later!
'This was the best year of my life because of the baby and it was the worst year of my life because of the breast cancer,' Giuliana told Savannah Guthrie on the Today show on Sept. 19. 'But it just goes to show that if you're strong and you're positive, great things can come out of the darkest time in your life,' she said.
Even leaving him for an extended period of time to come on Today was 'harder than I thought,' she said. 'He is so cute!
'Bill and I fight over who is going to feed him,' she added. 'I love dong the night feedings'we just stare at him all the time, it's unbelievable.'
But her trip on Today wasn't just to gush about her baby ' she wanted to remind people to do self breast exams and get mammograms, and that Sept. 20 is 'Do it for the Girls' day of action.
'Early detection is everything. It's what saved my life. If you detect breast cancer early, you have a 98 percent five-year survival rate,' she said.
